Students will create interactive modular installations designed and built separately at 7 different high schools.
When combined, these ecosystems will tell a unique story related to this year’s theme (‘What’s Under the Surface’). The program focuses on different model making skills and techniques including: architectural drawing, woodworking, lighting and soldering design, photography, and media branding.
The project will be displayed and exhibited on Governors Island as portfolio pieces during OtherWorlds Fair.

Made up of high school and college aged youth, our Workshop Team has spent the Summer learning woodworking skills, techniques and safety protocols that will guide them in making their own final projects to showcase during the fair. Having learned these many skills, the youth in our Workshop team encourage the public to learn the same skills alongside them in real time!

A 6-week cohort program where youth design hands-on teaching experiences intended to communicate their creation and imagination of another world during the fair! Hosted on Governors Island, 6 teams composed of 12 youth staff guided by 2 youth mentors and 1 adult discipline specialist in the fields of Food, Fashion, Performance, Fabrication and Storytelling.
Youth are exposed to a range of specialized career-aligned disciplinary skills and are able to elect which they hone in on to develop end of summer projects with their cohorts bringing their visions in that medium to life. Groups design and create public showcase events and hands-on workshops that progress the story of their world which will invite engagement with outside vendors and community members.
