Beam Center’s OtherWorlds Fair is a brand-new free festival on Governors Island designed and run by NYC public high school students. Produced in collaboration with Beam Center, OtherWorlds Fair offers people of all ages hands-on workshops, exhibits and performances in Fashion, Food, Storytelling, Design and Music that showcase the joyous fusion of cultures, identities and creative visions of today's New York City teenagers.

Building on Beam Center’s 14-year tradition of public festivals celebrating creativity and collaboration, OtherWorlds Fair will feature interactive workshops to engage people of all ages (7 years old and up) and performances and exhibits.
The festival features a series of 45-minute workshops interspersed with performances by youth arts groups.
Inventgenuity Festival is for kids ages 7 and up.
The festival will take place on Governors Island which is only accessible by ferry from Brooklyn and Manhattan. Be sure to plan your trip using this ferry schedule.
Festival activities are free to all, but donations are encouraged.

BEAM WORKSHOPS 2024
PAINTING WITH BLEACH:
Create exquisite custom tote bags and learn a new creative medium using one of the most common household materials - Bleach!
STORYTELLING BRACELETS:
Walk away with stylish jewelry that tells a story in just 10 letters crafted from beads you make from recycled magazines.
FOOD & PLANT PRINTMAKING:
Ink up and recombine textures from marigolds, island flowers, apples, oranges, potatoes and more to adorn textile accessories.
FLOWER BABY HUNT:
Follow a path of riddles in a hunt for pewter cast insects hidden around the fairgrounds. Return them to the anthropomorphic Flower Creature and make a Wildflower Seed Bomb as a reward!
LOLLIPOP PADDLE DRUMS & ACOUSTIC BRACELETS:
Build personalized percussion instruments and learn to use them to compose your own beats and dances.

GUEST WORKSHOPS 2022
Stamped Handkerchiefs with artist Xinan Ran:
Create a custom stamp using wood and foam, and then use that stamp to make patterns on a handkerchief you can take home.
TinkerLab Table with Lewis Latimer House Museum:
Join the Lewis Latimer House Museum education staff to participate in Lewis Latimer trivia and to experience their Young Inventor's Discovery Table, full of sensory materials, artsy projects, and things to build.

SPECIAL SESSIONS
Official Opening:
seeAsaw Join Beam Center as we celebrate the opening of seeAsaw, this year’s Beam Project GI. Designed by Andre Kong Studio and co-created by the youth staff and campers at Beam Camp City, seeAsaw is an interactive and immersive structure of 6 seesaws, connected by a spectacular draping hammock made from rescued fishing nets.
End of Summer Celebration:
Join us as we celebrate the creativity, joy, and vibrancy of our community and the accomplishments of our young people! You’ll hear directly from our participants about their summer experiences and break bread with Beam staff as they wrap up their programming.
