Marisol Castañeda Salgado

Marisol Castaneda-Salgado (ella/she) is the Director of Youth Journeys and Experience. Marisol’s role allows her to support youth as they engage in Beam’s non-traditional learning spaces where they can learn about, re-imagine, and transform our world. Marisol majored in psychology and received her Masters in Social Work with a focus on contemporary social issues from Columbia University, where she discovered her passion for participatory learning environments, community organizing, and popular education. Prior to Beam, Marisol worked in organizing fishermen to create their own cooperative in her hometown of Campeche, Mexico. She has also worked with various populations in Mexico City and NY on topics including houseless youth, restorative justice approaches for formerly incarcerated youth, and young immigrant mothers and their families. Although she loves taking photos and putting effort into how she picks her clothes in the morning, Marisol’s biggest creative practice is thinking through how to design programs for youth that allow them to critically engage in learning and unlearning based on their interests, dreams, and passions.
